The questions we hear most, answered below, and one form that reaches the people who make Dwindle.
Common questions
Dwindle is on, but the app I chose is still in color.
Every session starts in color: that's your color time, set in Settings as "Color before dwindling". Past it, the app flips to gray, a quiet cue that a quick check has become a scroll. If an app stays in color, check that it's under Dwindling on Dwindle's home screen and that the switch reads "Dwindle is on". On iPhone, Dwindle's Shortcuts screen checks your shortcuts, and an app that reads "Waits for a plan" stays in color until you choose one. On Android, allow the Fade overlay permission; true grayscale takes the one-time unlock below.
What is the difference between the muting lens and true grayscale?
On Android, the muting lens is a soft gray wash Dwindle draws over the app in front, and it works from the moment you install. True grayscale is Android's own color filter, the full effect, and Android only hands it to apps through a one-time developer handshake. Dwindle always says which one it is running. On iPhone, Dwindle uses the iPhone's own Color Filters.
How do I unlock true grayscale on Android?
Two ways, both one-time. On the phone: open Dwindle, tap Unlock on the muting lens card, turn on Developer options and Wireless debugging as the sheet walks you through, and type the six-digit pairing code into Dwindle's notification. From a computer: open dwindle.app/unlock-true-grayscale in Chrome or Edge, connect the phone with its cable, and press Unlock; the one-time command is shown there as the fallback. An iPhone needs no unlock.
What if the triple-click doesn't work?
On iPhone, add Color Filters to Control Center: Settings → Control Center → Color Filters. It turns gray off and on from Control Center, a second way out if the triple-click is reassigned or won't register.
How does trying it free work?
On iPhone, one app dwindles free, always, and a plan dwindles every other app you choose. On Android, you get seven days of everything with no card; with no plan by then, every app pauses and nothing is deleted. The pricing page has every plan and price.
How do I cancel a plan, or ask for a refund?
A plan bought on this site is managed in Manage billing on your account page, which opens Stripe's portal; cancel there and the plan ends when the paid period does. A plan bought through Google Play or the App Store is canceled in that store's subscription settings, under its refund policy. Purchases made here are final: you can try Dwindle free before you pay, and a plan can be canceled at any time. We refund only in extenuating circumstances, such as a duplicate charge, so write to us below if that is you.
How do I delete my data?
On the phone, Settings has "Export & delete my data", always free. If you made an account, Delete account on the app's Account screen deletes it and its records, and so does "Delete your data" at the bottom of your account page on this site. If you can no longer sign in, write to us through the form below, giving the address the account was made with.
Where does my data go?
Which apps you open, and for how long, never leave your phone. Exporting or deleting everything is always free. On Android, one scrambled identifier of the phone is sent once, so a reinstall doesn't restart the trial. A purchase check reaches our billing provider; see the privacy page.
Is there an iPhone version?
Yes. On iPhone, Dwindle runs on ready-made Shortcuts automations you add in a few taps, with the escape gesture and self-repair built in. On Android it reads which app is in front. The effect is the same on both.
